Contestant Name: Horse Creek Academy - HCA Today
    Entry Title: JEA Chambers

Judge Comment: This story did a great job of showing, not telling. By showing the subject not just as a talking head, but also actively teaching, the in-depth writing of the story was able to shine through. Because the story explores the mentor/mentee relationship, it feels much more personal. I really get the sense that the journalist “found” the story, rather than just writing a piece about a new teacher.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: Horse Creek Academy - HCA Today
    Entry Title: E.B.
    Entry Credit: Abigail Turner
Judge Comment: The writing paired with the chosen visuals gives this story a sense of context and reiterates the ideas of nostalgia being tied to a place. The writing could be more developed to bring the viewer into the world of the subject. Good work overall.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Tupelo High School - WTHS Media
Entry Title: New Volleyball Coach Spikes Cancer
    Entry Credit: Awa Camara
Judge Comment: I would’ve liked for the story to be more focused, perhaps on pink out night, to better understand the significance of this specific moment. The story relied heavily on interviews with the subject, but did provide important factual information.
