Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: Clements High School - The RoundUp Entry Title: Unshakably Ms. B Entry Credit: Karen Wei Judge Comment: Excellent feature structure and flow. Even though this is one of the longer pieces, it doesn't feel like it. I wanted to keep reading. Great use of sub headings and multimedia elements. The lightning round segment is a nice device. I really got to know Ms. B.
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: Clarke Central High School - ODYSSEY Media Group Entry Title: History and Hauntings with Jeff Clarke Entry Credit: Violet Cantarella Judge Comment: Part profile, part historical feature, this tale weaves together nicely and makes the reader want to take a ghost tour with this delightful man. The flow is fabulous, lovely creative writing in the lead and the conclusion. Nice turns of phrase throughout.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: Coppell High School - Coppell Student Media Entry Title: Limer takes Coppell by storm: A meteorologist’s path to teaching Entry Credit: Manasa Borra Judge Comment: This profile showcases a winding path that led a teacher to her classroom. That path is brought to life by use of excellent feature structure, fun description and compelling quotes.
Competition Comment: There were so many great profiles in this competition. The students did so well bringing out the interesting stories of their sources. The top three stood out partly for use of multiple sources. It's always a more in-depth profile if you get at least one more source to talk about the main subject and bring a different perspective.
