About
The Southern Interscholastic Press Association is a not-for-profit organization of school media staffs, representing middle, junior and senior high schools and independent schools. SIPA’s purpose is to encourage a high degree of professionalism in scholastic journalism and mass communications in the South.
Founded at Washington and Lee University in 1926, SIPA moved to the University of South Carolina in 1972. It is housed in the College of Information and Communications at USC, which is home to two schools — the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Information Science.
Member programs are from District of Columbia and 16 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
