Eryn Fox wears many hats at Horse Creek Media, where they serve as co-news director. Whether they’re leading their team, anchoring the daily news show, or creating fresh content, Fox thrives on the energy and creativity that come with the job.
“They bring a fun and bubbly personality to every situation,” adviser A.J. Chambers said. “They have represented Horse Creek Academy at state, regional, and national conventions.”
This year, Fox’s storytelling took them far beyond their small-town roots. While attending the National High School Journalism Convention in Philadelphia, Fox and their team found themselves covering protests outside City Hall the Wednesday night after the 2024 presidential election results were finalized. “It was such a culture shock,” Fox said. “Being there and reporting on it was an experience I’ll never forget.”
Another project close to their heart was their first commentary piece about school shootings. “That one turned out so well,” Fox said. “The chills I still get at the end, when the reporter whispers into the camera to be quiet, remind me why I love this work. It’s about creating moments that stay with people.”
Fox’s talents don’t stop at journalism. They’re also passionate about theater and cheerleading, pursuits they’ve been dedicated to for years. “I’ve been doing theater for more than five years now, and I just adore performing,” Fox said. “It goes hand-in-hand with cheerleading—it’s all about connecting with an audience and bringing energy to what you do.”
After high school, Fox plans to double major in marketing and theater. “Marketing has been my dream since middle school,” Fox said. “Broadcast journalism has taught me so many skills that will translate perfectly, like storytelling and understanding an audience. And theater? That’s something I’ll always love and want to keep in my life.”
Fox’s advice to other high school journalists is simple: step outside your comfort zone. “The more experience you get covering events outside your school, the better your stories become,” Fox says. “If I had only focused on my high school, I wouldn’t have grown as much as I have. Getting out there and exploring bigger topics made me a stronger journalist.”
Whether they’re reporting breaking news, taking the stage, or leading a team, Eryn Fox is making their mark.
